Inspiration: Rain, Steam and Speed. The Great Western Railway (1844), Oil on canvas

Turners painting depicts a scene of life in the 1840’s, at this time he was particularly interested in industry and technology. I wanted to have a bit of fun with this painting, so I chose to focus in on the barely visible hare in the original. I have given my hare a little more provenance, rather than running alongside the tracks (as in the original) my hare has chosen to wait to cross the tracks! Maybe he’s learnt something over the last 175 yrs !
